John "Johnny" Schacherbauer was born August 15, 1930 in Altoona Pennsylvania. On his sixteenth birthday the family moved to Pekin, Illinois. In January of 1951 John joined the Air Force and ended up stationed at Travis Air Force Base. While working at the Nut Tree he met a young woman named Janis Jordan. A romance blossomed, and they were married December 14, 1954, the day after John was honorably discharged from the Air Force. They had been husband and wife for fourty-eight and a half years.

In 1957 John went to work in a Standard station and in 1960 got his own Standard station in Davis. Though the business has gone through some change it continues as the family business know as Johnny's Service Center.

John and Janis moved to Woodland in 1991. John semi-retired from the business in 1992, secured his real estate license and and began a second career in 1993 as a realtor with John Lynch and Associates in Woodland.

John had been a reserve police officer for the City of Davis for ten years, donating a good deal of time in that role.

He enjoyed building model airplanes out of Balsa wood and paper. He was a natural with electronics. He could fix pretty much anything. Actually he was an all-around handyman. He could fix pretty much anything he set his mind to.

What stands out most about John was the way he touched so many people's lives. It happened right at the service station. He always took care of his customers. He valued his employees. He treated the young people like sons, and all of the employees like family. Johnny gave a lot of help to a lot of people, all of it done without fanfare or recognition.

Family was very important to Johnny... and he didn't define family in narrow terms. A whole host of people have been adopted into Johnny's family. His was a very close knit family. He is remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to people from all walks of life. He was a quiet, caring man and an encourager of others. He had a heart of gold, a strong personality and a great sense of humor. He was a hard-working, honest man with with rare qualities of integrity, compassion and knowledge. John was a tremendous husband, father and grandfather and brought joy to the life of each family member. Every life he touched was changed in some positive way.

Johnny touched many lives and will be dearly missed by all.
